WHO IS COACH MATEO?

Born in 1984 in Tokyo, Japan, I'm not Japanese, but my love for sushi might suggest otherwise. My childhood was a vibrant tapestry of cultures and countries, thanks to my father's career as a diplomat. From the bustling streets of Mexico City to the historical grandeur of Brussels, and from the lively scene in London to the sunny vibes in California, Ottawa, and Toronto—I've called each of these places home at some point.

After graduating high school, my passion for sports and human behavior steered me towards Sports Psychology. I pursued this interest at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, where I not only hit the books but also the basketball court, playing two years of Varsity Basketball. My efforts paid off as I graduated with honors in 2007.

I then returned to Mexico City and began my career at the national training center called CNAR as a sports psychologist and performance coach. I gained experience working with top Mexican athletes in over 30 different Olympic sports.

After 4 years I opened my private practice as well as my first fitness studio (2012).

Offering a variety of services such as personal training, nutrition, coaching, sports psycholgy, rehab and more.

Two years later in 2014, I started to franchise my brand "Personal Trainer Mexico" and opened 5 more locations in the Mexico City area.

In 2019 I sold my locations and started online training and the Coach Mateo Fitness Podcast.

Within 3 years  I sold over 10,000 memberships to my 21-day challenge called El Reto 21 plus other services.

In 2024 I moved with my family to Ottawa, Canada to build a lifestyle that is based health, training and outdoors activities.

what I do now:

  • Coaching people of all ages to live healthier

  • Speaking at events

  • Helping fitness businesses grow

  • Helping athletes improve their performance.

My goal is to help you be better than you were yesterday.

Why do I do this?

In my first job as a trainer while I was in school, one day while I was training a client, when I was about 20 years old, she told me “Mateo, you saved my life, because if it wasn't for you, I would be dead…You have a gift, so please never give up on people” and since that moment I understood my purpose in life.

This is a memorable picture becasue I was working with the Jr. Olympic Fencing National team and we clasified to the world cup when the probability was very low.

Now that you know who I am, let´s talk about your goals and see how I can help you.
